This summer, Proton Radio teamed up with legendary producers Deepsky & Marc Mitchell in our biggest remix contest to date. Software pioneers Native Instruments and hardware leader M-Audio joined forces to present a prize package worthy of any aspiring electronic artist and valued at over $2,000-- Native Instruments NI KOMPLETE 2 and the M-Audio OZONIC keyboard.

The contest is now over, with over 200 remixes submitted by artists from around the world. And the results are in. Submissions this round were highly competitive and consequently we have more worthy remixes than ever before. We'd like to thank everyone who entered the competition and took the time to make a remix. Click here to see who won!

The Original Mix

With 'Lost in the Moment', Marc Mitchell (UK) teams up with Deepsky (US) to deliver a progressive house and breaks hybrid that marks the sixth release on the fledgling Proton Music label.

One of the studio godfathers of the modern sound, Marc Mitchell has been crafting his skills as a music producer and composer for over 16 years, with countless labels and DJ's wanting a slice of his emotionally charged electronic masterpieces.

Hailing from Los Angeles, J. Scott G and Jason Blum—the team behind the Deepsky sound—are producers and remixers of world-class music that has rocked dance floors and armchair listeners alike for over a decade.

Now on sale at:

The availability of the chosen mixes are as follows-- the winner is now on sale at Beatport and will be followed suit by three runner-up remixes on October 13th. A week later we'll be giving out our five favorite notable mentions for free at Beatport starting October 20th and lastly we'll be featuring a selection of additional mixes for our members here on the remix contest page on October 27th. By then, we may very well have another contest ready!

Joel Armstrong and Peter McCowan are no strangers to the Proton Music remix competitions. With well received 'Abbreviated Funk' and 'Fingerpaint' mixes under their respective belts, they've collaborated together for the first time and the result is incredible.

Filled with their own melodies written to compliment the sound and emotion of the original, the Peg City All Stars remix takes the amazing samples provided and weaves a dance floor shaking masterpiece that has the likes of Shiloh and Opencloud singing praise.

ABOUT JOEL
Joel Armstrong is a fresh face on the EDM scene, basically, he’s a young punk.  This year has been an exciting step up for this young producer from Canada.  Because he pretty much lives in the middle of no-where-ville, he spends most of his spare time at his studio in his igloo.  His lonely lifestyle, various musical tastes and his diverse background have contributed much to his recent successes in music... ABOUT PETER
Already making a name for himself in the trance and progressive trance scene under monikers such as Alucard, Sonar Methods, and 49th Line, Peter has been DJ'ing since 1993 and producing electronica branded music since 1997. (read more)

LP's Litmus Paper Mix

LP has been pushing the envelope of forward-thinking electronic dance music since rave culture was barely beyond its infancy. Original members Jeremy Zunk and Steve Schroeder teamed up with veteran producer Taylor Pakula to form the current incarnation of LP in 2000.

Equally skilled as producers and DJs, the trio came together out of mutual respect for and love of electronic music. LP's production style is a unique and refreshing blend of energetic progressive house, trance, and breakbeat. Since the band's inception, thousands of excited fans have been witness to the always entertaining spectacle that is LP's live performance.

Their remix of Lost in the Moment is easily their strongest production to date, a massive breakbeat number infused with vocal effects and killer synths. A huge hit with the judges and a personal favorite of original artist Marc Mitchell.

"Ray Remero and Peter Martin bring forth a remix that is ethereal, stirring the mind and body.  This is the best work yet from this talented production team... progressive house at its best that keeps getting better.  Pay attention to these guys and listen to them grow and evolve..." - Lance Cashion (Proton Radio)
"Wicked mix... love Peter Martin's stuff, quality." - Mitch Alexander (Release Records)

Ray & Peter Mix

Peter Martin is the rare type of DJ/Producer musical magician that simply can not be classified by a simple electronic music genre description. This reflects in his manic ability to craft discrete sonic landscapes of all sorts. He can pull out complex melodic and harmonic tones with little to no effort. He never claims the credit, as he is just another channel for greater forces at work.

Ray Romero is a software engineer hailing from Austin, Texas. He currently works with an Austin based software company during the day but at night, it is all about the beats. His love for electronic music began back in the 80's when bands like Front 242 and Front Line Assembly were arriving in the musical consciousness. He first produced music in the early 90's with daisy chained midi keyboards and a 4 track.

"Supercool breaks mixed with large synth lines..and a killer breakdown...this one will no doubt be filling the floors. Relisys proves here why he is one of the best up and coming producers out there."
-Sam Packer (Proton Radio)
"Relisys' rendition has a funky edginess to it.  Breakbeats slice through melodies like a razor through fine silk.  The breakdowns are big and bold taking you to the brink of becoming lost in the stratosphere before pulling you back down to the ground with bass-heavy kicks. Outstanding work." -Lance Cashion

Notable Mentions (in no particular order)

Gerwin Koudijs
One of the great things about Proton Music remix competitions is their ability to unearth upcoming talent in the electronic music community. This go around, Gerwin Koudijs is that talent. His remix gave the winners a run for their money, managing to impress both original artist Deepsky and Proton big cheese Sam Packer.

Born and currently living in The Netherlands, Gerwin Koudijs always liked music with synthesizers as a kid. This interest led him to today's house music. He started making songs when computers made it possible to make them using only one piece of software.

With a vinyl release out on Karma Records, Gerwin is definitely an artist to keep an eye out for in the months ahead. Click here to contact him!

CPM
CPM is Cristian Pablo Malloni, an aspiring young artist out of Argentina with the Dirty Mellow EP out on Proton Music and a forthcoming 4 track EP on the upcoming Asymmetrical label. Visit CPM's website by clicking here.

His 'Lost in the Moment' remix is a step up from his earlier productions, showcasing a strong progression from start to finish-- culminating in a powerful climax that expertly combines all critical components of the original mix. Check it out! To contact CPM, click here.

His Boy Elroy
The music of His Boy Elroy began in the mind of Tim Holt in 1995. Intrigued by the underground electronic sounds of artists such as Moby, Tim started sequencing on an old korg keyboard. Fast forward to 2005. After writing themes for national radio shows, soundtracks and corporate videos, Tim resurrected His Boy Elroy and set his sights on making creative electronic music full time.

Tim Holt triumphantly returns to the Proton Music remix contests after his amazing 'Abbreviated Funk' earlier this year. But this one is even better. His 'Lost in the Moment' remix is a big progressive breaks affair with a beautiful piano melody and various cool effects. Top notch production quality.

For more information about His Boy Elroy, click here.

The Emissary
21 year old Evan Arnett (aka the Emissary) has a bright future ahead of him if the few songs we've heard from him in the last year are any indication of things to come. With a beautifully composed EP out now on Blue Plasma and now this progressive epic, trance infused breakbeat interpretation of Lost in the Moment, this Dallas based producer has definitely got our attention.

His remix of Lost in the Moment is almost entirely an original production-- but the quality of sounds and melodies he's added to the samples of the original are truly inspiring. A personal favorite of Jay Epoch.

Keep an eye out for his upcoming 'Synapse' EP out later this year on Blue Plasma. To contact the Emissary, click here.

Off Mind
Eduardo Leal Gonzalez has entered all three of our remix competitions, and each entry has gotten progressively better. His remixes are imbued with a powerful sense of emotion and deep natural understanding of melodies and effects. His latest remix, Lost in the Moment, adds insane guitars and intricate melodies-- definitely one of our favorites.

Off Mind is from Guadalajara Jalisco, Mexico. His alias is born from a mental condition or state that takes place when he remains totally saturated by music. Visit his website here or contact him via email.

The contest may be over but we've still got the remix parts hosted. Feel free to grab them while you still can, even if you missed the contest!
