Hot on the heels of the Fingerpaint remix contest comes Round 2 from the Proton Music label. We are proud to announce a remix contest of our second release: "Abbreviated Funk" by Formulate. Contestants compete for Propellerhead's recently released Reason 3.0 complete with the extensive Drum Kits ReFill along with a full release on the Proton Music label.

This contest is now closed! Thanks to everyone who participated. The original and winning remix are now on sale, while runner-up and notable mentions are available for download free for Proton Radio forum members!

The Original Mix

Preview & Purchase at:

Justin Humber is Formulate. At the helm of the storming Pacific Front label with his good friend Davin Greenwell, Justin is behind some of the scene's hottest new music with originals on Cure Recordings and remixes hitting number #1 on charts of Proton DJs such as Shiloh.

As the second addition to the Proton Music roster, Formulate delivers one of his biggest tracks to date-- 'Abbreviated Funk' is a funky and glitchy progressive tune that will put the capstone on any peak time set.

Opencloud's Funkspell Mix

In a press release earlier this morning, Blake Potter and Corey Spengler announced they would be taking a break from Proton Radio remix contests after they were declared winner in the station's latest remix competition.

Motivated by their near win in with Fingerpaint, Opencloud set out to prove themselves capable of producing a winner. While there were many amazing entries in this competition, the production quality and warped use of samples in the Opencloud remix make it a clear 1st.

But don't take our word for it, we've posted a selection of the other hot remixes entered this round and will let our listeners decide which remix they like the best. The Opencloud Funkspell Mix is now on sale at Beatport, while other remixes are available for download here exclusively at Proton Radio, free for our members!

The Runner-Up Remix

Joel Armstrong Mix
Rumored to have crafted this entry in under two days, Joel's mix is a somewhat laid back approach at the original, but exhibits a strong control over the samples and original vibe. A personal favorite of Formulate!

Fans of this remix should check out his remix of 'Electricity' on Beatport and keep an eye out for his 2 EPS forthcoming on Babylon Records featuring remixes by Derek Howell and Damien Heck!

Notable Mentions (in no particular order)

Off Mind Mix
From Mexico comes Eduardo González, this contest's surprise hit. Off Mind delivers the best breaks remix we received, featuring an amazing introduction and breakdown. If this remix is any indication of things to come, Off Mind will definitely be a name to watch in the coming months. A personal favorite of Jay Epoch.

Freeman Parker Mix
One of the first remixes we received, Freeman Parker's take on Abbreviated Funk isn't progressive like most of the entries submitted-- its straight up funky house. This remix comes to use from Switzerland, definitely worth checking out!

To contact Freeman Parker, click here.

4Mal Mix
Next to the winning remixes, 4Mal's mix was our favorite progressive house entry. With releases on Baroque and some amazing remixes cropping up, 4Mal are definitely onto something. We've been lucky to get a remix out of them in both of our contests so far, and recommend this one to our listeners. Another personal favorite of the original artist, Formulate.

Logiztik Sounds Mix
One of the few Proton artists to break the 1000 listener mark on more than one occassion, Logiztik Sounds' mix should ring true to all the listeners who loved his Featured Artist mix and artist showcase on the Particles show.

Hyper Jumperz Mix
Out of Istanbul comes a collaboration between Mert Medeni and Batu Erbilgin (a.k.a. DJ B++). This remix features tight breaks and big synths-- plus lots of cool effects.

His Boy Elroy's Funked Up Mix
Winner of the Wired Magazine / Creative Commons remix contest, Tim Holt is His Boy Elroy with a 'Funked Up Mix' breaks of Abbreviated Funk.

Nikodemus Remix
A trancey yet strong remix that introduces various new melodies and patterns. Great sounds and atmosphere, with good use of the samples!
