Progressive isn't dead. Not by a long shot. While Minimal, Electro House, and Tech House sweep the shops and our own airwaves, there has been a growing demand for the classic progressive sound that has defined Proton since our inception.
Jay Epoch's Particles compilation series returns for its fourth installment with what we hope will satisfy our listeners' demands for quality progressive house. Episode 4 - "Mulholland" features Particles veterans Ray & Peter and Joel Armstrong along with the Proton Music debut of resident DJ Naveen G with 'Roots Grow Deep'.
The focus, as with previous Particles, is on melody, atmosphere, and progression. From the powerful chord's of "Self Love", to the spacey beats of "Eye Are See" and "Space Suit, Jay Epoch crafts a worthy follow up to January's "Kaori" compilation filled with emotion and slick transitions.
Fans of Jay Epoch's numerous progressive breaks broadcasts on the station are rewarded with Armstrong's "Runaway Reject" which features the vocals of Derek Kehler. If you liked 'Serenity' or have missed quality progressive breaks, do not miss this one!
The DJ mix is available alongside all singles in unmixed format. Remix packs featuring interpretations of the featured singles will be released in the coming months!
For those of you who haven't already heard Guy J's "Self Love" do yourself a favor right now and click the preview clip to hear one of the most stunning progressive tracks to be released in months-- receiving 9/10 on Progressive-Sounds and 4/5 on Resident Advisor. And for those of you already familiar with the track, you're in for a treat with a collection of similar emotional progressive tracks.
This New York native turned Chicago resident has been churning up the Proton airwaves since 2002 on "Darker Shades", one of the most beloved progressive shows on the station that explores the more atmospheric, dark, and techy side of the genre.
With a few releases out on Toes in the Sand, Naveen finally makes his debut on Proton Music with this epic piano laden number that pours life into a wallowing genre. Look forward to more from Naveen in the months ahead.
Static Flux, otherwise known as the second half of the Proper Villains duo based out of Southern California, has previously released music on prestigious trance/progressive label Lost Language. Now he hits the Proton Music label with "Eye Are See" and the Proton Radio station with "Expressions in Sound".
This is probably the strongest track Peter Martin and Ray Romero have ever produced together, giving Sonic Alchemy and Project 6 a strong run for their money. Producing together as Ray & Peter, this duo graced the "Mono No Aware" (the first Particles compilation) and has been remixed by one of Greece's most popular progressive artists: BIG.
And last by certainly not least, Joel Armstrong takes center stage with a worthy follow up to 2004's release of "Serenity" which broke numerous records for Proton Music including the first release to ever score a perfect 10 on Progressive Sounds.
Joel, currently studying art in Vancouver, has delivered an emotional vocal piece using the vocals of best-friend Derek Kehler. This is progressive breaks done right.
Episodes in the Particles compilation series feature a DJ mix from Jay Epoch composed entirely of exclusive Proton Music tracks. Each release comes with the DJ mix alongside all the unmixed singles used to create it.
Additionally, each episode is followed by a series of remix packs containing new remixes from the tracks featured in the original DJ mix.
