Nearly 450 remixers submitted their interpretations of Fingerpaint in Proton Radio's first remix contest, sponsored by Native Instruments. We'd like to thank everyone who entered the contest, there were tons of great remixes and entries by artists who will be shaping dance music in the months ahead.

The Proton Crew chose 10 of our favorite remixes and submitted them to Digital Witchcraft, who chose the winning remix!

The Winning Remix (as chosen by Digital Witchcraft)

"We thought the R&M mix had the best combination of production quality, cohesiveness as a song, and use of the melodies from the original of all the ones we heard."
- Digital Witchcraft

R&M Mix
Out of Iceland comes the duo project of Roofuz and Mr. Minute, partners in crime with the Funk Harmony Park production outfit.

Their entry into the Proton Remix competion is their first attempt at remixing another artist, although they have numerous original productions on the way-- the first of which, "My Truth" is currently out and tearing up dance floors on Fade Records.

Having spent the last 15 years creating music and art, R&M are now at the forefront of a new Icelandic club scene they dub the "Arctic Wave".

More remixes by R&M will surely be on the way, so stay tuned. To contact them click here!

The Runner-Up Remix (as chosen by Proton Radio)

"Corey and Blake are set to take over. This remix is a very good example of how they can perfectly combine melodies with dirty basslines and very complex elements. I never get tired of listening to this remix." -Sam Packer
"For Sam and the rest of the Proton Crew, it was the dirty synth that will undoubtedly rip open any dance floor that made the Opencloud mix stand out-- but it was the melody they wrote on their own that slowly lifts itself out of the original that did it for me." -Jay Epoch
Opencloud's Welcome
Back to Earth Remix

Blake Potter and Corey Spengler, together as Opencloud, are crafting bombs that have recently entered the arsenal of the likes of Hybrid and Phil K. Their Fingerpaint remix might explain why.

One of the most important parts of the original tune is how it makes you feel, and Opencloud succesfully captures that mood and makes it their own in a remix that is true to the original yet of a completely different nature.

Wrapping up a production with Proton's own Lance Cashion and putting the finishing touches on their first EP, Opencloud will soon be on the tongues of many.

Notable Mentions (in no particular order)

Paper Scissors Destroy the Canvas
A truly creative re-working of the orginal track with a beatifully twisted vocal sample that makes for a great breakdown.

More info about Paper Scissors is coming soon. Check out Stuart McKeown's (1/2 of Paper Scissors) releases at EDMDigital.

4Mal's Doodle Mix
We first heard this remix on the beaches of Miami during this years Winter Music Conference. A lush breakbeat track, 4Mal's mix is a well produced and true to the original.

4Mal consists of Russian duo Anton and Evgeny, to read more about them click here. Check out their original 'Twilight' now on sale at Beatport and their Damien Heck remix over at EDMDigital! 4Mal will be a Featured Artist this summer on Proton.

Timo Maé's Main Mix
This remix caught our attention right from the start. A glitchy progressive tune that evokes the sound of Ozgur Can and Kosmas Epsilon-- well done.

We have literally no information about Timo Maé, but if this remix is any sign of things to come we'll all be hearing more from him in the future. If you are Timo Maé please contact us!

Baunder Mix
Added melodies, pads, and percussion make this remix a complete success. One of the best breakbeat remixes we heard. The melodies Baunder adds to the fray are both well written and compatible with Digital Witchcraft's original pieces.

Baunder is an Argentinian producer currently making waves in the progressive house and breakbeat community with numerous remixes and original productions. Click here to check out his available music on EDMDigital & Beatport!

V Sag Mix
We knew from his amazing Featured Artist mix in March 2005 that VSag's remix would be something special, and he didn't fail to exceed our expectations. A wonderful progressive house remix.

Hailing from Greece, V Sag has been producing for just 2 years but already has created succesful remixes and originals that will start making their way out this year. To read more about V Sag, click here!

Joel Armstrong Mix
A highly intricate progressive house remix that utilizes all the right frequencies.

Under the tutelage of the Shiloh brothers, Joel Armstrong entered center stage when they featured his latest masterpieces on their Electrofly show. Less than a month later Joel's tunes were picked up by upcoming label Babylon Records-- definitely a name to watch out for in the months ahead. Check out his website here.

KiloWatts Mix
Gentle melodies contrast perfectly with a driving breakbeat in one of the competition's most original remixes. Great intro, great breakdown!

DIGITAL WITCHCRAFT
When Dave Preston brought Marcus Andrew and Ned Shepard onto his Rhythmaculture show back in April of 2003, the listeners and crew of Proton Radio were caught off guard. The deep atmospheric sounds of Digital Witchcraft were mind numbingly beautiful and went on to grace our airwaves later that year with a Featured Artist mix that put their name at the forefront of the progressive and breaks scene.

Then, when Nick Warren and Jody Wisternoff of Way Out West debuted "Fingerpaint" on the BBC, Proton decided to book them for their WMC 2004 event in Miami. We really just wanted to hear the song again-- on proper speakers.
